We were pleasantly surprised by Bloemfontein.
We were pleasantly surprised by Bloemfontein. It is clean and neat. The Botanical gardens are absolutely beautiful. Extremely well cared for - definitely worth a visit. Oliewenhuis art museum is free (R10 parking fee only) and lovely for a visit and a picnic in the grounds.
Nice restaurants; good malls; traffic not too bad at the time we visited.
I'd recommend Haru Sushi restaurant.
Tempe golf club at the Tempe Military Base (open to the public) was an unexpected find - cheap round of golf on a nice course.
Disappointed that the planetarium visitors centre doesn't seem to be open, most days of the week; it only opens for special viewings.
Naval Hill worth a visit - friendly ostriches and beautiful views.

I lived in Bloem for 9 years, it was great in the 90's.
I lived in Bloem for 9 years, it was great in the 90's.
Unfortunately, the city has deteriorated massively.
I would not go to Bloemfontein for leisure or tourism.
It is central to stop on the way to/from somewhere or if you have some work / business / family-event to attend to.
Great place to shoot a dystopic movie seen!

I love the city and especially the fabulous friends and family who live in Bloem - not exactly a holiday destination but defnitely the place to visit for cricket or rugby games.
Traveling around is easy and getting to Bloem is very easy on the highway

We spend half a day at the Boer War Museum, inside and all outside exhibits -it is well worth seeing! It gave us not only a much better understanding about cause for the war, the battle actions and the political aims of all parties involved, but also the extreme suffering of non-combatant population mainly women and children!
A great deal of care and attention has gone into the room about the concentration camps.
At the exit of the museum’s building is a light room with some comfy sofas inviting you to rest your legs and browse the different books about the Boer War.
After that tough but necessary topic relax with a drink from the coffee shop just across the lawn… it has excellent coffee!

I grew up and went to boarding school in Bloemfontein.
I grew up and went to boarding school in Bloemfontein. The city has deteriorated under the ANC government. Bloemfontein municipality I believe is amongst the many South African municipalities that are now bankrupt. As a result the maintenance of the city is poor and neglected. Many roads need repairs as the tar has warn away down to the gravel beneath. Street light can be intermittent and traffic lights are also an issue as some work and many do not. It is quite ridiculous, but street names on the curbs have been painted over in black paint and have adverts for local businesses on them. Street name signs are now missing generally. The suburbs where the whites live are generally still in a reasonable condition. This is the new South Africa under the ANC government and it is a disaster. As far as the CBD of Bloemfontein is concerned, it must be avoided as it is dangerous. It used to be a first world area with major shops, businesses, offices, cinemas etc. I went through it once and will never go there again. Remember, I grew up there and knew it very well.
We have stayed here before and it was as good this time as previously. Very nice spacious room which was clean and comfortable. The hotel is modern and very nicely decorated. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was very good. The location is very handy if you want somewhere to stay close to the N1 without going into Bloemfontein itself. and is in a nice secure and quiet location. The wifi worked well and there was plenty of parking. The food at dinner was not the best we've had but it was acceptable.
We loved the location being close to everywhere we had to be during our trip to Bloemfontein, and that even though it was close to everything, it was quiet and peaceful.
We appreciated the bottled milk, rusks and water bottles that were in the fridge and that were refilled/replaced the next day. The room was clean and the beds and bedding were lovely. It was spacious and clean.
Another bonus was the inverter that assured there was electricity available, even though loadshedding took place.
What a stunning guest house where everything, from the peaceful and amazing setting to the tiny detail (like a Nespresso machine in the room) exceeded my expectations. Melani is the most welcoming and friendliest host that walks the extra mile for her guests. It is like staying in paradise. You will not leave untouched by this unforgettable experience. I can't wait for my next visit and will most definitely recommend staying at La Belle guesthouse on your next visit to Bloemfontein.
It was safe, everything was within my reach so I was just walking to every location and that saved me money for cabs, not forgetting that the hotel was affordable itself.
There was always someone at the reception when I needed something and they helped with a genuine smile. I was more that satisfied with the service, felt like I was in a five star hotel, I was very happy was even difficult to leave.
Great staff. Extremely friendly staff who go out of their way to assist.
Rooms are extremely clean, as well as the rest of the Hotel which although dated is extremely clean.
Really good food, both dinner and breakfast. Chef went out of his way and made us an off-menu salad which you would find in the top restaurants.
Easy parking although in the centre of the city.
We enjoyed the modern, neat and spacious self catering unit situated in a beautiful and safe area. The staff was so friendly and ready to assist whenever we needed them. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and the lady assisted us despite of the time of arrival, I'd definitely recommend and book the place again when I visit Bloemfontein.
It was a wonderful experience, we were welcomed warmly by the family, including the dogs, felt immediately at home in the cosy and well-furnished flat and enjoyed every moment we were there. We already spread the word around to our friends and family that this is the best place to stay in Bloemfontein.
The rooms are neat and clean, and the staff are very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was delicious..And Thank you for the chocolate surprise ❤️I will book at Greenleaf guest lodge should I go to Bloemfontein again..
Located on a farm outside Bloemfontein. Arrived a bit late, but was still greeted and welcomed personally. Beautiful property with 3 bedrooms and great facilities - including 2 lounges and fully equipped kitchen.
Elmarie is the perfect host...the Unit was Excellent....we will definately stay there again on our next visit to Bloemfontein.
Bloemfontein itself was a shock though...it looks dirty and Broken...so sad to see.
This is our favorite place to stay when we travel to Bloemfontein as good value for the money, great accommodation and service and a nice separate area for watching TV or you can watch from bed.
The place was clean, nice rooms, with lapa for relaxation and a pool for cool off. We enjoyed our stay in Bloemfontein and definitely will share with our friends visiting Bloemfontein.
